Improved healthcare services in the Municipality of Raška with the support of the European Union

The Health Centre in the municipality of Raška was renovated with the support of the European Union of over 95,000 Euros, extended through the EU PRO Plus programme, which is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, while the municipality of Raška participated in the project with almost 17,000 Euros. Today, the renovated premises of the Raška Health Center were visited by Rihard Maša, the head of Operations II of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, together with the Mayor of the Municipality of Raška, Darko Milićević, and representatives of the Ministry of European Integration and the EU PRO Plus programme.

The interior works included partial replacement of flooring, renovation of two restrooms, replacement of interior joinery, and repainting of the rooms. As part of the project, air-conditioning units were also procured, as well as televisions for the waiting area in the pediatrics department, significantly improving the conditions for patients and the work for medical staff.

“For more than 15 years, we have been cooperating with the Municipality of Raška on the local social-economic development programmes, through which the European Union has supported more than 60 projects. By supporting these projects, valued at around 2.2 million Euros, of which EU grants amount to 1.7 million Euros, we confirm the European Union’s commitment to improving quality of life of citizens, through infrastructure development, better healthcare, and strengthening the local community,” said Richard Masa, Head of Operations II of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia.

Masa underlined that two projects in the healthcare sector have been implemented in Raška through the EU PRO Plus programme. “The reconstruction of the health station in Baljevac and the renovation of the Raška Health Centre have contributed to improving working conditions for doctors and medical staff, as well as the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens,” Masa stated, adding that the municipality has recognised the importance of investing in the healthcare sector.

“Improving conditions at the Health Centre represents an important step toward higher-quality and more accessible healthcare for our fellow citizens. We are grateful to the European Union for its continuous support to projects that contribute to the development of our municipality,” said Darko Milićević, Mayor of the Raška Municipality.

The Municipality will continue investing in the Health Centre through the building’s energy efficiency renovation, with the funds of the Republic of Serbia through the Directorate for Financing and Encouraging Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Mining and Energy. Additionally, last year the X-ray department was reconstructed with a new digital X-ray device procured, while the elevator was installed, as well.

During the visit, it was also highlighted that cooperation with the Municipality of Raška continues through the EU INTEGRA programme – EU Support to Integrated Territorial Development, within which the municipality is participating in the development of a territorial strategy for the urban area of the cities of Kraljevo and Čačak, and the  municipalities of Raška, Vrnjačka Banja, and Ivanjica.
