With the EU support Golubac will have the National Museum

With the support of the European Union (EU) the existing building in the centre of the municipality of Golubac is being reconstructed in order to create adequate space for the National Museum. The EU grant of more than 170,000 Euros was provided through the EU PRO Plus programme, which is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, while the municipality of Golubac and the Government of Serbia participate in the implementation of the project with 30,081 Euros.

The works on the repurposing of this facility include reconstruction of building and facade, replacement of roof and windows as well as water and sewer pipes, along with the renovation of floors, ceilings and painting so the building is ready to host the National Museum, the first cultural institution of its kind in Golubac.

"The National Museum will be an important cultural institution in Golubac, where we will present and preserve our cultural and historical heritage, exhibits and items from localities on the territory of the municipality, thus significantly enriching the tourist offer. Thanks to the great support of the European Union, we first renovated the Golubac fortress, then we arranged the summer stage and sports fields, and now we will have a museum and renovated central square in the municipality", said the Mayor of Golubac, Nebojša Mijović. As he underlined, in this way Golubac became the leading tourist destination on the Danube.

The municipality will establish a museum digital platform, while in cooperation with two civil society organisations, "Smile of the Danube" and "Flower of the Danube", the citizens participation in establishing museum exhibitions and educational activities will be ensured.

The works performed by the company GTR "Partenon" from Požarevac, selected in the public procurement procedure conducted by the municipality of Golubac, should be completed within 120 days.

The project in Golubac is among the local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus programme with close to six million Euros in order to improve the quality of life of people through the  renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, and improvement of communal infrastructure and public administration buildings.
