New look of the Cultural Centre in the Bobovo village with EU support

With the support of the European Union, the inhabitants of Bobovo village in the Svilajnac municipality now have a completely renovated Culture Centre as a place for gathering and a richer cultural and social life. The work on the reconstruction of this building, built in 1947, was supported by the European Union with 190,000 Euros, extended through the EU PRO Plus programme.

"Culture is the link that ties all of us, our ancient and future generations, and it is one of the most important principles in which the EU believes. This Cultural Centre is much more than building and bricks as it is about our past, present and future and this is the way to preserve the cultural heritage”, said the Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Nicola Bertolini, at the ceremonial opening of the Cultural Centre in Bobovo.

The reconstruction included renovation of the facade, replacement of external and internal joinery, floors and installations, construction of the boiler room, and renovation of the stage.

“Bobovo is the second largest village in the municipality, but it is a village that we pay full attention to. We have reconstructed a health centre, a primary school, we are finishing the water supply network and plan to work on the sewage network. Now, with the support of the European Union, we have also reconstructed the Culture Centre so that children and young people have a place to exercise and gather", said Predrag Milanović, Mayor of Svilajnac. He pointed out that the results of successful cooperation and friendship with the EU can be seen at every step in the municipality

The project in Svilajnac is one of 37 local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus programme with close to six million Euros in order to improve the quality of life of people through the  renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, and improvement of communal infrastructure and public administration buildings.
